Jonatan Rigo García
Period of Visiting: November 2025 – February 2026
Jonatan is a PhD candidate in Public International Law at the University of the Balearic Islands, where he is a fellow researcher and teaching assistant of the Public Law Department.
While he holds an LLM in Human Rights by the University of National Distance Learning (Spain), his doctoral research lies at the intersection between environmental and criminal international laws. Particularly, he focuses on the potential criminalisation of the crime of ecocide and its possible contribution to the protection of the environment by compiling and analysing all its relevant legal manifestations from both historical and comparative perspectives.
Given that ecocide is, in many aspects, a product of environmentally harmful industrial activity, during his stay at Nova BHRE he has been researching on the responsibility of multinational corporations for environmental harm and its impact on human rights.
