Angelica Bonfanti

Angelica Bonfanti (PhD) is an Associate Professor of International Law at the Law Faculty of the University of Milan, where she teaches the courses International Law, EU Law on Business and Human Rights, and the Jean Monnet Module Cultural Diversity and Human Rights Law.  

She is the co-director of the Business and Human Rights Summer School and co-organizer of the Interest Group on ‘Cultural Diversity in International and European Law’ of the Italian Society of International and European Union Law. She sits on the International Law Association Committee on Business and Human Rights, the European Working Group on Model Clauses for Sustainable Supply Chains, and the Human Rights Commission of the Milan Bar Council. 

Angelica coordinates the Jean Monnet Module on Cultural Diversity and Human Rights Law (CultHUm, co-funded by the EU) and the research units at the University of Milan in the projects ‘Arms, Peace and Sustainability’ and ‘Global value chains, human rights and the law’, funded by EU Next Generation and the Italian Ministry of Research. 

She has also been Head of Studies on the Sustainable Development Master’s programme at the University of Milan, a member of the Coordinating Committee of the Interest Group on International Business and Human Rights of the European Society of International Law, and a mentor within the project ‘Support to Early Career Researchers for Fostering Sustainable Business Models in Ukraine’ (BHR4Ukraine, Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law). 

Her research focuses primarily on business and human rights, cultural diversity, public and private international law, cyber law and international trade and investment law. Angelica is the author of the books ‘Imprese multinazionali, diritti umani e ambiente. Profili di diritto internazionale pubblico e privato’ (Giuffrè, 2012) and ‘Diversità culturale, pratiche tradizionali dannose e diritti umani. Un’analisi di diritto internazionale pubblico e privato’ (Giappichelli, 2024), as well as of many articles published in peer-reviewed legal journals and collected volumes. She edited the book ‘Business and Human Rights in Europe: International Law Challenges’ (Routledge, 2019) and co-edited the volume ‘Natural Resources Grabbing: An International Law Perspective’ (Brill, 2015).
