Business and Human Rights Developments in Portugal

The first episode of the webinar series on Business and Human Rights Developments in Southern Europe was dedicated to Portugal. The panel analysed some of the key findings of the first national survey on Business and Human Rights in Portugal, the current legal landscape in relation to human rights and environmental responsibilities of companies, relevant instances before the Portuguese OECD National Contact Point, as well as taking in practical insights and perspectives from academics, government representatives, NGOs, legal practitioners, trade unions, and business. The keynote speech was delivered by the Vice-president of the European Parliament, Heidi Hautala.

The second episode of the webinar series on Business and Human Rights Developments in Southern Europe was be dedicated to Spain. The webinar was multilingual: English/ Spanish. The panel discussed the Spanish National Action Plan, presented the building blocks of the draft Spanish law on mandatory human rights due diligence, some practical insights about Spanish companies’ due diligence practices, as well as conflicting situations relating to the foreign activities of Spanish multinational corporations in Latin America and issues of access to justice. The webinar was multilingual English/Spanish. Business and Human Rights Developments in Italy

The third episode of this webinar series on Business and Human Rights Developments in Southern Europe was dedicated to Italy. It took place on the 10th of November 2020, 12:00 – 13:30 (Lisbon Time). The panel considered the Italian National Action Plan, Legislative Decree no. 231/2001 on the administrative responsibility of legal entities, companies and associations, as well as relevant case law and instances before the Italian OECD National Contact Point.

The fourth episode of this webinar series was dedicated to the Business and Human Rights Developments in Switzerland. The panel analysed the results of the popular vote on the Swiss Responsible Business Initiative, and their implications for corporate due diligence in Switzerland.
